I have always had a passion for nutrition, fitness, and health in general (thanks Mom). I thought I was fit until I found CrossFit in 2006. My very first experience at a CrossFit facility was life-changing. The workout was Helen, my time was slow, and the weight for the kettle bell was scaled. It was a very humbling experience overall, but I instantly fell in love with the program. Ever since then, my affinity for CrossFit has grown exponentially.

My close friends will tell you I have a history of not being able to stick with anything. I’ve gotten into martial arts, skateboarding, marathon running, and plenty more. I always got bored and moved on to something else; something more exciting at the time. Until I found CrossFit. You can never get bored with constantly varied functional movements. In doing CrossFit, I found that I had a passion for coaching and helping others reach their goals.

The first book I ever read was Arnold’s Bible of Bodybuilding. By age 10, I was doing “rib cage expanders” and single arm bicep curl demos for my friends. I was on the steps of the gym as soon as I was old enough to get in, and I’ve been training and coaching since. Over the years, I found out how easy it is to spend several hours lifting weights and accomplish nothing. After Varsity and NCAA sports were over, I went looking for a better way to be fit, and I found CrossFit. I know what is out there, and I know Arnold would agree, everyone will benefit from moving better, looking healthy and feeling fit. I love this stuff.

I grew up playing competitive team sports my entire life and liked to consider myself a very fit person. After college, I found myself serving in the U.S. Navy on fast-attack submarines. Four very sedentary years later, I was unhappy with where my fitness levels had declined to, but was lucky to receive orders to serve with a SEAL team in Hawaii for two years. To say my time with the SEAL’s was life-changing would be an understatement. I discovered CrossFit, the benfits of proper nutrition and the advantages of working out in a team environment. CrossFit is a program like no other I have ever tried, and I truly believe that anyone can reap the benefits of the program. I hope that CrossFit Deep Ellum can expose more people to the benefits of the CrossFit program.
