About

I have always had a passion for nutrition, fitness, and health in general (thanks Mom). I thought I was fit until I found CrossFit in 2006. My very first experience at a CrossFit facility was life-changing. The workout was Helen, my time was slow, and the weight for the kettle bell was scaled. It was a very humbling experience overall, but I instantly fell in love with the program. Ever since then, my affinity for CrossFit has grown exponentially.

About

My close friends will tell you I have a history of not being able to stick with anything. I’ve gotten into martial arts, skateboarding, marathon running, and plenty more. I always got bored and moved on to something else; something more exciting at the time. Until I found CrossFit. You can never get bored with constantly varied functional movements. In doing CrossFit, I found that I had a passion for coaching and helping others reach their goals.

About

I grew up playing competitive team sports my entire life and liked to consider myself a very fit person. After college, I found myself serving in the U.S. Navy on fast-attack submarines. Four very sedentary years later, I was unhappy with where my fitness levels had declined to but was lucky to receive orders to serve with a SEAL team in Hawaii for two years. To say my time with the SEAL’s was life-changing would be an understatement. I discovered CrossFit, the benefits of proper nutrition and the advantages of working out in a team environment. CrossFit is a program like no other I have ever tried, and I truly believe that anyone can reap the benefits of the program. I hope that CrossFit Deep Ellum can expose more people to the benefits of the CrossFit program.

About

For over 20 years, my life revolved around baseball. After high school, I received a baseball scholarship to play at Rice University, and in 2003, we won a National Championship. After my baseball career was over, my competitive drive led me to experiment with other outlets such as triathlons, Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ), and Crossfit. Although I have moved on from triathlons, I truly have found lifelong pursuits in BJJ and Crossfit! My quest for constant improvement has also created an insatiable desire for knowledge, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology at the University of Texas at Arlington.

About

Until July of 2008, competitive swimming was all I had ever known. I had just completed a 15 year swimming career that led me to the United States Nationals, NCAA Division 1 Championships, and eventually the 2008 Olympic Trials, and I was in search of something to fill both the competitive and athletic void in my life. I still remember my first Crossfit workouts vividly and to say they were agonizing would be an understatement. Ever since that first day at the gym, I have been on a journey of self improvement that has changed the way I work out, the way I eat, and has profoundly affected all aspects of my life. I have met some amazing people on this journey, and I feel lucky to be in the business of helping people better their lives. Crossfit Deep Ellum has given me the ability to share in the lives of many people I otherwise would have never met, and I get a great sense of satisfaction knowing that I have helped people to achieve their goals and to be their best.

About

Exercise, athletics, and competition have been a constant in my life since I could walk. I picked up Olympic Weightlifting in high school as a compliment to football and wrestling. Soon thereafter, football and wrestling became compliments to my weightlifting. From that platform I have competed in National competitions around the United States including the Junior National Championships and the American Open. I began coaching the sport in college and have since fallen in love with seeing others do and complete things they never saw possible. As a junior in college, I walked into my first experience with Crossfit and to say I was unprepared is a massive understatement. I realized my weightlifting background could push the weights but my lungs and mind could not keep up. I was hooked then and still am today and I count myself lucky to wake up everyday getting to coach, encourage, and help others in meeting their goals.

About

I have played soccer my whole life, along with just about every other sport. In college, I ran the 1600 meter. After almost losing my leg and life to severe knee surgery complications, I was told simply walking would be my daily workout. I was not okay with retiring at age 18. So after six months of vigorous rehab and yoga, I attempted CrossFit for the first time. I physically could not lift myself out of bed the next day from being so sore. From struggling to do the simplest movements in my first WOD to now, I push myself everyday to get just a little better. Crossfit has given me so much more than just health. Crossfit has truly given me my life back, and my passion is to share this gift with anyone willing to work for it.

About

I found CrossFit in March 2008 and my life has forever changed. My first workout was Frantastic with a 15# bar and jumping pull ups, and I couldn’t even finish. I set a goal to one day get a true pull up and to be able to lift the 45# bar. That occurred, and well, the rest is history. I am a firm believer that if you allow it, CrossFit can change your life, your health and your overall mental state. I fully support the Paleo diet and recommend it to everyone I know. I want to help the female population and show them that you can be strong without being bulky.

About

I have a pretty stereotypical story for our society. I was an athlete growing up who, after college, let himself get seriously out of shape. I spent the better part of 2005-2009 overweight and living an unhealthy life. After losing my grandpa to cancer and seeing the rest of my family heading down the road to diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, I decided to make a change. I started eating healthy (ate vegan for a year and a half before switching to paleo) and running. After a few road races (mostly half marathons), I found the triathlon world. I have competed in and completed a number of tris up to the Ironman distance (ask me about the 2 Ironmans and a marathon in five weeks – not the smartest move I’ve made). I found Crossfit through Lululemon (where I also work) and have loved not only what it’s added to my athletic endeavors, but also the family I’ve found through it. I know the agony of the DNF (and the failed WOD) as well as the ecstasy of crossing that finish line and am passionate about helping others overcome the former to accomplish the latter.

About

Most of my life has been dedicated to team sports. In high school, my focus was football, track and field (shot put and discus), and power-lifting. After a failed bid to play division one football at the collegiate level, I enrolled at Baylor University where I later received a B.S. in Environmental Science. Ever since then, I have participated in various “individual” sports like boxing and mountain-biking. It wasn’t until I discovered CrossFit two years ago that my competitive nature was reignited. The enthusiasm from the coaching staff and veteran members was encouraging, motivating, and contagious. I realized I had found something truly unique and special.
