Coaches Notes

I get asked about fruit intake a lot, how much, how often, what types, etc. Unfortunately there isn’t an easy answer to these questions because everyone is different. So instead of trying to break down a bunch of different scenarios I will explain my position on fruit. The basis for my stance is purely anthropological. Think about the availability of fruit to our ancestors. Where a person lived would determine what fruits they ate and when they would even grow. Some locations would have produced very few fruits at all. My point is that until recently, fruit was a luxury. None of us in Texas would be enjoying watermelon, mango, papaya, and many other fruits if we didn’t have a grocery store stocking them for us. None of us would be eating strawberries and blue berries every day if we didn’t have a fridge to store them. Without the convenience of fruit being available at all times and all seasons from around the world, we would all be eating quite a bit less. As you know, the coaches at the gym strongly believe that eating a diet that mimics that of our paleolithic ancestors is the best thing we can do for our health. If we continue with that approach, it makes sense to keep fruit intake moderate. As long as being lean and healthy is your primarily goal, eating like Grok is the way to go.

Thank you, Mark. I knew I could count on you to correct my error……

  2. Just to play the devil’s advocate, you could say the same thing about the winter months and vegetables. The only veggies available were hard winter squash and root vegetables that were stored. All the lovely colorful produce probably had a very short growing season in the warmer months!

    • I’m going to read this to mean that I should consume, almost exclusively, tasty animals. I’ll just have to take up organ meat to get my vitamins.
