Coaches Notes

Let’s all talk about our least and most favorite movements and why. Also, are there movements you wish we did more often and why?

Reminder: If you are in the Paleo Challenge, our mid challenge lecture is going to be this Saturday at 11:15am. We will be discussing FAQs, Pre / Post Workout Nutrition Advice, Life after the challenge, Cheat meals, and more.

Starting February 6th we will begin a trial period for a 7:30am and 11:00am class. These new classes will only be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during this period. Based on attendance we will determine whether or not we add these classes to our full schedule. The trial period will only be for a short time so if you really want these classes, make sure and attend!

  1. The following are both my least favorite moves and also the ones I wish we did more often (so they don’t have to stay my least favorite moves).

    OHS
    wallballs
    thrusters
    snatches (yes, all squat-related so far…)
    toes to bars
    pistol squats, muscle ups, handstand pushups or any similar quirky thing that they may try throw in at the Opens this spring.

    Last year, one of the Open’s WODs that I still lament over was: 60 burpees (no problem), 30 OHS at 90#s (problem), and 10 muscle ups (would have been a problem if I could have done the OHS to get there). I would love to be confident that this year I could complete such a WOD all the way through… I think we have about a month of training left… It’s crunch time!!

    Hands down….Toes to Bars (rips my hands to shreds!)
    OHS- just plain suck at them
    Wallballs are pretty brutal too!!

  3. Least – Front squats, I can get down but am chellenged getting back up.

    Most – Turkish getups, my entire being feels engaged in this move.

    I know CF is a total body workout and strengthens the core and this contributes to ab strength, but Kevin and I both are weakest in the ab area so I wish we did a bit more ab focused moves.

  4. I hate burpees- just because.
    I hate double unders because I need to keep practicing them.
    OHS is slowly getting off my hate list- they’re getting better as my shoulder issues are getting better.
    Sumo, DL, High pulls are the worst!

    Would like to do more:
    Muscle ups, bench, and GHD. I love GHD :)

  5. Survival tip: try to break the second half (DBS & PU) up into manageable sets but don’t rest too long to loose rhythm. Enjoy the calluses, 18:15

  6. Least favorite moves are anything involving squats. I never get low enough.

    Favorite moves are handstands and kipping pull-ups. I’m horrible at both, but love practicing them!

    Squats (back – I hate front) – Deadlifts – Box Jumps – Handstand Push ups

    Least Favorites:
    Running 400′s, Running 800′s, Running 200′s.

    Do more of:
    Skills practice – in general. Classes that have a good chunk of time time dedicated to teaching and practicing skills on a regular basis with a short burner WOD would be cool.

    Least favorite – OHS, push press, snatch. Why? Because they blow. (And I have no strength in lifting heavy things above my head.)

    Most favorite – any body weight movements – pushups, air squats, pullups, running, abs, running, abs etc. (Did I mention that I like running and abs?)

    • agree, agree, agree and i would add box jumps, wall-balls anything that gets my heart-rate going. if i don’t leave sweaty and out of breath i feel like i didn’t get a good workout – i know that’s not what CF is all about but i can’t help how i feel. :)

    OHS – My thumbs/pointer fingers go numb every time, and stay numb for at least a day. Shoulders don’t like them either…but don’t understand it. I don’t mind Push/Shoulder Press or Squats, but put them together and I hate.
    Favorite:
    Squats – Front and Back – Just love the adrenaline it provides.

    All body weight movements and cardio – pull ups, push ups, air aquats, running, sit-ups, double unders etc.

    Love:
    Snatch, OHS, back squats, thrusters, and clean and jerks

    I am not falling into this bear trap.

    Love:
    Skills – handstands, handstand pushups, wall walks, muscle ups – I love anything that reminds me of gymnastics

    Like:
    Overhead movements – overhead squat, snatch, push press, jerk
    Abs – toe to bar, GHD, ab mat sit ups, V ups, half moons, L sits
    Body weight – chest to bar, pull ups, air squats, pistols, box jumps (I don’t know that these are body weight, but I’ll put them here)

    Intrigued by how they get the best of me (love/hate):
    Double unders
    Pushups
    Dips
    Rowing

    Hate:
    Anything with the weight in front – front squat, thrusters, wallball – these movements put a lot of strain on my lower back and old injuries don’t like it.
    Running

    Cardio
    Any Hero WOD (fav is Murph)
    Spence’s Crazy Russian Ab Complex
    body weight (pushup, pullup, dips)

    Dislike:
    Anything One Rep Max
    OHS

    Need to Improve:
    DU’s, Running, OHS, Burpees
    18:50 Rx today

    Squats (front or back)
    Press
    Deadlift
    Push-ups
    KB Swings
    Airdyne

    Least favorite:
    Running

    Things that would be cool to see:
    Sled / prowler work
    Static carries/holds
    Tire flips

    Hate: Anything I’m worse than Jeremy at

    • I’m surprised you haven’t cancelled your membership since you don’t like anything we do.

  15. Least: Anything to do with running. Box jumps. Airdyne. Rowing

    Fave: All body weight WODs. Cleans, C & J.

  16. Like: squats, snatch, cleans, overhead presses, OHS. I used to hate all of those.
    Love: Deadlifts, sprints, high box jumps, GHD’s. Rowing prior to the 300m mark. And star jumps. Who could hate star jumps?
    Hate: Rowing after the 300m mark. High rep cleans or snatches. More than 20 burpees, scoops, K2E or T2B.

    If all our hates are going to be used for programming in the next month or something, I also hate couch sits, child’s pose, and inverted handstands.

    Tonights workout featured 1400m of me hating rowing. 9:50 on the first one with 53#, 9:40 on the second with 35#

  17. I get this strange feeling we will be seeing more of all the things we say we hate. Since it is election season, I say. I love it all!
